Tattoo Booking Policies & Aftercare
Consultation Bookings
Consultations at SkinArtJ Tattoos are reserved, one-on-one time set aside specifically for you. During your consultation, we discuss your ideas, placement, sizing, and design direction so your tattoo is planned properly from the start.
If you need to reschedule your consultation, please provide at least 72 hours’ notice. This allows us to offer the appointment to another client. If you need to reschedule or move your appointment, we are able to accommodate up to 3 times, after which, the client will forfeit the deposit and will require a new deposit for future bookings. Deposits for rebooking an appointment may require a larger deposit, at the discretion of the tattoo artist, especially for no-show appointments.
For short-notice re-booking of or missed consultations, a $50 consultation deposit will be required to secure a new time. This deposit is applied toward your tattoo session and helps ensure our time is respected by all clients.
Tattoo Bookings
How do I book a tattoo appointment?
Booking a tattoo with SkinArtJ Tattoos is easy. Simply fill out our Contact Form with details about your tattoo idea, including size, placement, style, and any reference images you may have. Once submitted, we’ll review your request and respond within 24–48 hours to discuss next steps and scheduling.
For quick questions, you may also text 780-722-2023.
Is a deposit required?
Yes. A non-refundable deposit is required to secure all tattoo appointments. Deposits go toward the final cost of your tattoo and reserve your artist’s time. Deposit amounts vary depending on the size and complexity of the tattoo.
If you need to reschedule your tattoo appointment, we require a minimum of 48 hours’ notice to transfer your deposit to a new date. Late cancellations or no-shows may result in forfeiting the deposit.
Can I get a price estimate?
Absolutely. While exact pricing depends on the design, placement, and detail, we’re happy to provide a rough estimate once we review your idea. The most accurate quotes come from reference images, size details, and placement information submitted through our Contact Form or discussed during a consultation.
Do you accept walk-ins?
We primarily work by appointment only to ensure each client receives proper attention. Walk-ins may be accepted when availability allows. If you’re hoping for a same-day tattoo, we recommend texting ahead to check availability.
Tattoo Preparation
Preparing properly for your tattoo helps ensure the best possible experience and healing outcome.
Before your appointment, please:
- Get a full night’s sleep and eat a solid meal beforehand
- Hydrate well in the days leading up to your appointment
- Moisturize the area to be tattooed for about a week beforehand
- Avoid alcohol or drugs for at least 24 hours prior to your session
- Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the tattoo area
- Wear clothing you don’t mind potentially getting ink on
- Bring nutritious snacks and food if needed — longer sessions can affect blood sugar. We have a refrigerator on site if required.
- If you’re feeling unwell, please let us know so we can reschedule
Taking these steps helps your body handle the session better and improves overall results.
Tattoo Aftercare
Proper aftercare is essential for healing and long-lasting results.
Second Skin Bandage
- Leave the second skin on for up to one week, only to removed if excess peeling exposes the new tattoo, shower water can get under the bandage, or blood/plasma is leaking from the bandage. If fluid is contained and not leaking, the bandage is secure and no need to remove early.
- If removal is needed, do so in the shower, where warm water helps loosen the adhesive.
- Follow the cleaning and moisturizing instructions below.
Black Bandage
- Your artist will let you know when to remove the dressing, usually within a few hours.
- Wash your hands, and carefully peel back the bandage.
- Follow the cleaning and moisturizing instructions below.
Cleaning & Moisturizing
- Gently wash the tattoo using a mild, unscented liquid soap (such as Dial).
- Allow the tattoo to air dry.
- Apply a light layer of unscented lotion to the area three times per day.
While Your Tattoo Is Healing
- Keep your tattoo clean, and out of the sun following your tattoo appointment.
- While sunblock is always recommended for your tattoo to keep it vibrant, avoid wearing sunblock while your tattoo is healing, instead cover up the tattoo if you will be going into the sun.
- Avoid immersing your tattoo in water, including swimming pools, hot tubs, bathtubs, lakes or rivers until tattoo is fully healed.
- Do not scratch or pick at the tattoo, if it is very itchy, lightly patting the tattoo can soothe irritation.
- Avoid wearing tight clothes while the tattoo is healing to avoid potential irritation.
Touch-Ups
If any touch-ups are needed, please contact your artist within three months of your appointment.
Following these aftercare steps helps ensure your tattoo heals properly and looks its best for years to come.
